Slinfold Computer Café meets on the first Friday of each month (subject to holiday changes) from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 noon, in the Parish Room (upstairs) in Slinfold Village Hall (see Contacts page for location). It is specifically not an enthusiasts' club: in fact it is as much a social event as a club; our meetings are quite informal, and people are welcome to 'drop in' as suits them. Details of our forthcoming meetings can be found in the monthly Slinfold Magazine, and are also provided below. The schedule below shows the meeting dates that have currently been booked, and the subjects for the meetings will be added as they become available.

We welcome anyone — whatever their computing knowledge & experience (or lack of!) — to join us for a friendly chat/discussion, over tea/coffee and biscuits, about anything even vaguely related (and sometimes not even vaguely related!) to computing and IT. We have a core of about 8 – 12 fairly regular attendees, and at any particular session there may be from, say, 5 to 15 of us there.

Coffee/tea and biscuits are provided. There is no membership fee and no commitment, but we do ask for an 'attendance fee' of just £3.00 to cover refreshment and room hire costs — and there is NO charge for your first visit.

  • 'Patch Tuesday' : Microsoft normally releases Windows 'Quality Updates'  (as distinct from 'Feature Updates', which are approximately twice yearly) on the second Tuesday of each month (US time). Consequently, when you turn your computer on in the UK on the Wednesday morning, there will often be updates ready to be downloaded and installed. Depending on the number of updates (and on your update settings), this can take anything from a few minutes to several hours, and delay you from accessing your computer during that period.  So be prepared!

If you have any kind of computing, software or IT related problem or query — however basic — you are welcome to come along and ask for help and advice.  We won't promise to be able to resolve all issues, but we will do our best.  If the issue relates to a portable device, then please bring that device along: it is a lot easier to understand and discuss an issue when we can see it, than in the abstract.  Power sockets are available if your device needs them.

Free WiFi broadband is available.  We also have a Windows 10 desktop computer, a Windows 10 touch-screen laptop computer, printer, DVD player, projection facilities, and Bose speaker facilities available as required.

We cover a wide range of subjects but concentrate primarily on Windows and Android systems.  (We do not cover Apple products because of lack of knowledge & experience of them.)  Nevertheless, many of the subjects we cover are independent of what device or system is being used, such as security issues, including passwords, back-ups, e-mails, internet usage, and data breaches; your 'data-legacy' (what happens to your data when you die & will others readily be able to access it as necessary); and other generic issues.

You are, of course, very welcome to join us even if you do not have a specific problem or query to ask about! Bring your expertise - we are all good at something!

Some 'meetings' are semi-formal sessions with a themed subject matter, advertised in advance — this may typically involve a presentation or structured discussion; whereas others are general sessions, with no pre-arranged subject, for chat, discussion and trouble-shooting, wide-ranging on any issue that people may bring with them.

Having said that, we deliberately aim to make time available for queries at all meetings, so you are welcome to bring specific problems or queries to any meeting.

It would be great to see you attend a session at some time. Did we say the first one is free?
